Wireless Range Problem

I have a Hewlett Packard Pavillion PC m8000 desktop computer. I don't really know what my wireless LAN card is but it says i connect using a "USB wireless 802.11b/g". The problem is that when i set up my internet and connect to the router it works when i'm in the same room as it but not perfectly. It cuts out occaisionally. But when i move it into the next room about 10 feet away it stops working altogether.

Does anyone have any clue why this could be?

Some other specs are:
AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor 5200
2.6GHz
2048MB memory

A lot of times the wireless that's built in is junk, have you had problems with it prior to this? I'd certainly recommend getting a pci wireless adapter.

My laptop doesn't struggle with it. I pick it up fine. It's just my sisters desktop that struggles with it. Can you recommend any good PCI adapters then please?
