I have cable internet connected to a wireless router to which I set the security on to 64bit. I discovered that somebody is using my internet even after I chanced the router password. How is that possible? Is it better if I increase security to 128bit?

Thanks

How do you know someone is using your internet? The only way someone can use your internet after you changed your password is if they watched you or they have a keylogger on your system. What facts do you have to back up your thinking that someone is using your internet?

On my ISP's website I can monitor the internet usage by MB downloaded and after I changed the password this still increased. But I wonder how they got my old password in the first place??? Are there programs to hack into routers?

Check your routers documentation on how to look up what clients are attached to the router, most routers have this option. How many internet connected machines do you have? Another possibility is that you could be infected or you have programs installed and running that require internet access. Have you ran and malware or virus programs lately to check for infections.

I'll see about the router documentation. I don't have malware problem because the internet was used in days when I did not put my laptop on. I have only one laptop accessing this router.

Are you connected wirelessly with your machine? If not, then disable the wireless on your router. Or you can do this... bring in another computer from off site to change your router password and see if you are still getting high usage.

When you say you changed your routers password, do you mean the actual password to access and configure the router?
