wireless router

While starting to replace my router I discovered that Comcast rewired my existing router when they installed Xfinity home security. Wiring now goes from modem to their security router modem plug, then goes from one LAN plug on that router to the modem plug on my router. Would going from the modem to a 4 port switch, then a separate ethernet cable to each router be better?

in this order

Modem > Router > Switch

ps you ONLY need one router not two as two is just a headache to configure and just no point

I'd like to tell that to Comcast. They put the second one in. I am trying to separate them. I don't know why but they said my router would not work with their security system. All it seems to be for is to link the sensors with the control panel. I was hoping a switch would get it out of my network.
