Does the actuall wireless card(not the antenna) have anything to do with the range that you can recieve from?

Some people would argue that a branded card would have a better range or connectivity with the router. By branded i mean the router and ethernet card are made by the same company.

Ive acctualy gotten better signal by using a different brand router and a different brand card. So it is kinda true, its more or less trial and error to find the best company. There is a poll somewhere around here asking what brand people thought was the best.

Another question: How much gain in the antenna would I need to get a decent signal from a LINKSYS WRT54G, about 50 ft away and through a floor and a wal?
