WMP/iTunes Question

I have a little music on my pc..some single songs and some full albums. I have all of my single mp3's in iTunes in a playlist. All of my albums are not in any playlist, I usually just open the whole folder and play in Windows Media Player. The last few albums I downloaded cannot be played. When dragged into itunes, they simply don't load into the playlist at all. When loaded into wmp, I get an error saying that they type of file cannot be supported. Properties for all say MPEG layer 3, .mp3..doesn't matter if they have the itunes icon or wmp player icon..the old ones work good, the new ones won't work at all. Why is this?

What is two different fomats? If I can play most mp3s in wmp and itunes, why will others in the same format not play in either?

I also tried to convert the mp3s to another mp3 using DB PowerAmp music converter and it told me that the codec needed wasn't found.
