Hi im new here , got a few questions as to a comp im building
ive got 2 or three desktops lying around, ive dismantled them all for hard drives and such since the mobos are dead, i picked up an 845GE Max Pure from a refurbisher, and im wondering wether any of my cases will fit it, or if i would haf to buy a new one, and i cant take the fan off to see the CPU, Can ANYONE HELP?? im 15 and really need some help lol!!

Ty

thanks for the info, how would i go bout getting it running without case, and what would be a good budget friendly Mobo, since im a little strapped for cash atm lol?

Mobo

the mobo you have is for a pentium 4 or celeron processor, if you plan to use a cpu already installed on that mobo then you would need to find a mobo with a compatible socket type. If not you can get a current mobo with an lga 1155 socket and buy a new second gen i3 cpu (or i5/i7). You could do an i3 2100 or 2120 and a current board like this.
If you just want a new mobo and already have a cpu shop for one with the same socket type.

You install the CPU w/ thermal paste, RAM, PSU, and the power button connector to the motherboard and press the button. If nothing shows up, start diagnosing.

1) Research about computers hardware; Prepare budget and specs wanted
2) Motherboard
3) CPU
5) HDD
6) RAM
7) GPU
8) PSU
9) Case

Extras
10) Cooler
11) Monitor
12) Keyboard/Mouse
13) Stereos/Headphones/Headsets

Ummmm.. Ndame, that motherboard is not compatible with old Pentium 4's, it is compatible with the new lga1155 socket pentiums.

Dizmal, You said the MB you got from the refurbisher has a cpu in it, right?
If so does it have any ram (memory sticks)?
Do not pull off the heatsink to look at the cpu right now.

In any case you are going to need a working power supply, monitor, hard drive, keyboard and mouse.

I'm going to need to know the numbers off any of the memory sticks you pulled off the other motherboards if there is no memory in the used board you got.

If you have a digital camera that might help as we go along.

That was my belief too, if you look at cpu type under description it has both celeron and pentium listed as well as i7/i5/i3. I didnt even think it was possible. I was misslead by the information thank you for calrifying that.
your right, i am not very familiar with intel sockets and chipsets as i deal mainly with amd boards.

yes ive got a camera to upload pics, the mobo i got from store did not have any ram with it, ive got a fully functioning desktop pc so ill take the PSU and stuff off of that, ill upoad pics as soon as i can, i just put the other pcs back together and was going to take apart the fully functional one, and i have a laptop, which is where this is all coming from right now so ill upload pics as soon as i can get access to a pic hosting website

I wouldn't take parts off a working computer to try to power up this board.
This board is old and the working computer might be better than this.
What is the working computer?
