hi my pc was on when we had a power cut and now when i turn my pc on it will go through post and to the windows logo screen but it wont boot to the desktop i have tried it in safe mode and it still wont go through to the desk top i am running xp pro please help

See if you are able to boot from a removable device, such as a floppy boot disk, or windows cd. If that works, you can work from there, and try a reapier install or check your files.

Im thinking it may be related to you power supply since there was a power outage. You could try pluging in your computer to another wall outlet / surge protector. If that doesnt do anything, try to test your psu if you can (this can be done with a psu tester, or you can jump it (you will have to google jumping it to learn how)).

power cut off during system boot can do damage to you hard disk.I think you should reinstall you windows without formatting your original one

you can boot into the recovery console off the windows xp cd?

You can use chkdsk to rebuild the disk if there is corruption, or do an overlay off the cd as suggested earlier
