Won't play .WAV files

My friend has a 7.1 Creative surround sound speaker system plugged into the same motherboard as mine (in sig). The sound played great for about two months, but all of a sudden it won't play any WAV. files. He's reformatted, installed every driver he can find for the and it sitll doesn't work. If anyone could help me out i would greatly apreciate it.

EDIT: Also he does not have .WAV files muted in windows.

Has he checked an equalizer or something to make sure that the sound is getting sent out of the computer, or is that what you're saying is the problem?

We have checked the equilizer in windows and in the sound drivers.
