Won't recognize USBs

Does it make the *boing sound when you connect a device to the USB port?
(its 2 boinks quite fast after eachother.. i know... it sounds stupid,.. but i have no idea how else to describe that sound :) )

If you dont hear that sound... My gues would be the hardware is disabled.

so... what hardware do you have? are the USB ports on-board? (on the motherboard itself?) because then it could be disabled in the bios.

hi, I currently have the same problem. I recently have bought a new printer - samsung ML 1610, and a new 5G I pod, and its just not happening! No Boinks! They are in my device manager, with the ! mark next to them both, but my system won't let me update drivers, and says there are no drivers installed for both devices. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling in different orders, downloaded the latest drivers, but still nothing.

I have 6 USB inputs, one of which my camera works fine in (i've tried the printer and i pod in this port) and one my wirless router is plugged into (also tried them in this) but no luck!

As for the printer, it keeps assigning itself to a LPT when i install any software.......but I can't assign it to a USB. Just need those damn boinks back!

Help!

ok, so for Jack L., find the USB drivers for your PC after you check the BIOS and then install the drivers

and for ainsley80, i had the same problem with my 5g ipod, so i just put in the CD that came with the iPod and reinstalled everything and it just worked, so you might want to try that

I can suggest you look into the device manager of your pc first, see if the USB ports are still listed there. also check if there are no errors there too :)

Unfortunatley no disk with came with my I pod (I bought it from NY last week). I'll try again - it might be something to do with the fact my hard drive is listed under E: I remembered I had some difficulty before with my last I pod. Can't remember for the life of me what I did though!

As for my USB ports, as seems to be well -

Standard OpenHCD USN Host (x2)
Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host
3 x USB root hubs
It shows my camera in one port, then my Ipod and printer in 2 more, both with ! marks next to them.

Thanks in advance
