Words overlapping on hotmail

can anyone help?

when using internet explorer and checking mail, the inbox is fine but when you click on forward or reply, the page loads but all of the text and page layout is all overlapping and you cant click on any of the buttons or contact list.

Its using Windows ME, which I know is old as anything but its an old person using it and they dont waht to change at the moment.

Is IE browser version as old as the OS, if so it probably has difficulty rendering the pages that have been optimised for later versions.
