work station card?

the workstation cards are designed for designing and like the way a cpu has certain parts that make it up on the die, a gpu is the same, and a worstation gpu will prob have a different ratio of 1 part to another and the gaming gpu would be the other way around, and the workstation gpu also uses different techs and all so it is also designed differently, idk how much better they are, but for what they are made for they will perform much better than that 580 supposedly, or in this case 3 of that 580

You cannot use a regular graphics card for 3D applications. You have to have a workstation card, and they are very advanced, so the price is justified.

Autocad and Maya. I guess you could use a regular card, but a workstation card's drivers are designed for these applications. A workstation card render more accurately, while a GPU renders it as fast as possible.

i looked at autocad and maya, they are expensive as hell, maya 2012 is like 7500 bucks lol, what exactly are they used for and by who? are they like whats used my game studios and such, so more for professionally making games and stuff?

While we're on topic, how much better are workstation cards than regular cards? I'm actually gonna start learning autocad next year and am thinking of getting a XFX 6850. I know it's not a dedicated card for 3D modeling but well, i cant exact afford a workstation card atm, and also because i game on my pc :)

the main diff between the 2 is the gpu on the gfx card consists of a couple stages, so the one on the workstation card will have more of something the other doesn't, as to the actual diff in performance, only benches can tell you that, or a person that knows, basically not me and the majority of the people on here too.
