world of warcraft

I know a few people that lost their lives to WoW. It is all about self control you can't blame the game or the developer just like you can't blame the drug someone is addicted to. The addictiveness comes from the personality of the person and the lack of their self control.

not exactly I think.
Does the game take no responsibility?why are we blaming the wow rather than a solo game?
net games,I mean any of them, are always tring getting people addicted by leaving no stone unturned.wow is just the most attractive one of all.
now tell me,what do you pursue in the game?most people are gonna say "yeah, game make me happy or exciting or sth else blabla".but as far as some people post early the wow is getting boring in a couple of months.that's the question:after that, when even wow-addicters feel bored, you are still playing and "farming" for what?for friends?oh come on~that's really naive. In truth most people are just eager for more powerful equipment.
wake up,all items in the game are nothing but an array of 0/1.

So, i take it you dont play any game longer than 1 week? I mean, addiction is a matter of perspective anyway. and ea, ofcourse Blizzard tries to keep as many people playing as possible, they get money for it (duh). but, for example take CoD4, you 'rank' in that game too, unlocking better weapons?
lets all go rage at CoD4 then, because its addictive?
tell me please, who's beeing naive here? people who cant control themselves are the problem, not the games itself. (its the same stupid argument as that games cause aggression etc.)

Its not about getting your life stolen. You cannot blame a game for making yourself get addicted.

WOW is great. I am really into the PvP (player vs player) aspect of the game. Once you get to lvl 70, which is the current max lvl, its great. I would say try it out. The discs only cost $20 and that comes with a free month of play. And you can actually try it free at www.worldofwarcraft.com

good luck

No, you can not blame a product when it is abused by the user. It is the same with a gun. Guns do not kill people, people kill people; and if they were to outlaw guns in the USA, people would still use guns to kill people. The only difference is that they would acquire the firearm illegally instead. Or, they would use another method of killing someone, like a bomb or a knife or whatever.

If people want to do something they will do it regardless, its called free will. If Blizzard felt that it's product was harmful to people and destroying lives and they discontinued it tomorrow, there would be pirated, illegal WoW servers up the next day. You can't blame the game, you can only blame the person. People in general have weak wills. I even fall into this. I have quit smoking like 4 times in my entire life, all 4 times I quit cold turkey and never looked back. Then months and sometimes years later I for some reason go out and buy a pack of smokes just because. Even though I have a strong enough will to quit cold turkey and not smoke for over a year, I still at some point down the road will randomly buy a pack of smokes and smoke them. Its just in extreme moderation these days. I don't blame anyone but myself because I know I have done it before and can quit permanently but I choose to smoke a cigarette every now and again.

I like the story.

I do agree with some others that same it takes allot of time and can get boring etc. But would like to say, what mmorpg can compete with wow? I dont think any can, especially if you are into the competitive part of the game that I am and love the pvp and arena stuff. WoW is great imo, some love it, some play it, some hate it. Its all personal opinion. If you had enough interest in Wow to open a thread about it, I just recommend trying it.

The game costs $20.
