World of Warcraft

Whole seperate question, i know it hasn't to do with gaming, but my computer arrives friday, I am installing 2 extra fans inside ( two 200MM fans for the HAF 922 case), I was told to connect the fans to the power supply or to the motherboard to power them up, any advantage connecting the fans to a motherboard over connecting them to a power supply?
btw, i have no fan controller.

It really doesn't matter how they are connected as long as you have the proper connections. With fans, what is more important is the the direction they're blowing.

One is a side fan, one is a bottom fan, I will want both of them blowing in, correct? Or do i want one blowing out one blowing in?

In a 'nut-shell' you usually want in the bottom, out the top. And usually 2 out for every 1 in. Of course every case is different and every fan is different so you sometimes have to monkey around with the settings.

But I recommend getting "Speccy" that way you can monitor your temps from an easy program and see what fan configuration works for you.

Does the fans have to be connected to the motherboard in order for the "Speccy" program to work?

btw, thanks for all the help guys

Nope.. speccy is just for hardware where fans are more of an 'accessory'. All you do is set up your fans, run your computer for about an hour idle and then on load and see what the temperatures change to, over night turn your computer off change your fan config and then repeat and see if the temps drop. That's what I did and it worked well.. It's probably a little bit of a 'primitive' method. Might want to post this question in the cooling section rather than gaming section. :P

with the fans if you connect them to the motherboard you will be able to control them with programs like speedfan which you won't be able to do if you use the molex connectors on your PSU without a fan controller.

however, if they are high rpm or big fans (which 200mm is) having several fans on the motherboard can draw too much power making the motherboard too hot, or worse, fry it, so if you can, it is advisable to get them running directly off the PSU. If it is a couple of standard 120mm fans, you are fine, it is only ever big fans and especially high rpm fans that cause any problems
