Never had/used/remember ME, i just went with other because windows 7 is pretty bad....on desktops.

assuminh your runnig that on your sig rig that doesnt make sense, you may have a hardware problem.

I ran it on my pentium 4 machine with 2GBs of ram with all the aero effects enabled and it was lighting quick.

Me was a failed attempt at something awesome. They basically tried to add features that were in XP/2000 to 98. In a way, Windows 7 is to Vista as ME is to 98, except 7 is actually good. Also, I'd say Win98 first edition gives ME a run for its money...that was pretty bad.

Vista had a bad launch...that's all. It may have some quirks that not everyone likes, namely the overprotective UAC, but now that it's matured a bit it's actually quite good. It's no Windows 7, but still, it's definitely not bad.

The worst has got to be one of those poorly-supported underground linux distributions that elitists worship because they have no features and are impossible for an average person to use. (They call it "lightweight".)

Seriously...who actually enjoys navigating with the command line?

ME came out right before 2000 did. It was their last attempt at saving the 9x kernel. Microsoft knew that their future consumer OS (XP) was going to be based off the NT Kernel and that 9x was going bye bye. They also were trying to compete with other OSes at the time, and OS 9 from Apple had just come out.

Back then almost every time MS released an OS, Apple released a Major OS as well with a few exceptions. Though the late 90s is when Apple first started to make a come back. In the early 90s they got their asses handed to them by the PC industry.

Those Linux projects usually die and honestly never really take off. If you are going to compare Linux to anything, you really honestly gotta compare either a founding distro (one of the first ones that is still around) or something derived from a base distro and is successful, like fedora is from redhat and ubuntu from Debian.

Also, I like the command line, it is so much faster and more efficient but higher learning curve of course.

I did to. I mentioned it here also. Was and is a time place for it. Thats all there was. Besides the commands its the switches or and flags to use and accomplish what ya want to do. Windows has come a long ways and will take care of it mostly.

I quite like command line, i like learning how it works and getting having the potential to do things quicker if I want to.

Having tab auto-fill file paths is just so amazing. I can navigate to a file path in seconds on the command line. If I were to drill through all the folders in the GUI it would take a lot longer.

Unfortunately, Windows is lacking some serious command line features.

Yes, they went away except for the basics. I do not understand that.
Some of the commands was very powerful. I still have my books and a notes i created starting in 1974. I documented everything, and how to do it for my reference. I dated every page, instruction and how to.
cheers.....

Dos is just about gone now.
It was a memory.
