Worth it?

Hey,
I've had this desktop I built for quite some time now and to keep up with gaming habits have been replacing bits and pieces of it every once in a while. My current specs are:
Operating System
MS Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit
CPU
AMD Athlon 64 3400+ 37 °C
Venice 90nm Technology
RAM
2.0GB Dual-Channel DDR @ 198MHz (3-3-3-8)
Motherboard
ASUSTek Computer INC. Amberine M (Socket 939)
Graphics
W2053 @ 1600x900
512MB GeForce 9600 GT (XFX Pine Group) 45 °C
Hard Drives
977GB Western Digital WDC WD10EALS-00Z8A0 ATA Device (IDE) 30 °C
Optical Drives
HL-DT-ST DVDRRW GWA-4161B ATA Device
Audio
Creative Audigy Audio Processor (WDM)

My processor is the only thing that falls below the minimum for Black Ops and I was wondering if it's worth trying to save this machine with new parts or get a new one all together.

Personally opinion only : I don't see why not to save it, it seems like a really nice one. unless your a hardcore gamer who wants the best. just add a new processor (if you can find one) and another 2GB of memory and your good to go. upgrading to a better video card should be a breeze too.

another good option would be to change the motherboard and get quad core cpu. you can do that for as little as 170$.

I don't see why you would toss it all out.

If your motherboard has integrated graphics, keep the system for general use and what not, or buy a cheap graphics card for HTPC, or at least so you can still use it. Then, go and upgrade. I say keep the rest because:

1. It isn't worth a whole lot
2. None of the parts, apart from the graphics, are compatible with new technology
3. Why let it go to waste? If you really have to use for it, ebay it, craigslist it or just give it away, but no need for it to be forgotten about

What sort of budget would you be looking at for a new system? And what parts would you need? For instance, would you be happy to salvage your hard drive/optical drive from the current build?
 
Can't be upgraded to new parts, but still a good general purpose machine. Maybe you could run Folding@home or BOINC on it?

I've got a pretty limited budget of around 200$ for myself, but the holidays can reap unexpected goodies too. I use my computer for most of my schoolwork, basically anything and everything. And running games at the highest specs isn't my highest priority, just running them is.
I'm willing to salvage anything I could get from this computer, but because it was made so long ago, I don't think things will be compatible with newer technology.
