worth running 8800gt in sli?

atm i have a 8800 gt 512MB sli ready 650i mobo (worth £60 lol) 2GB of ram and a E4500 and a sweet samsung 1920x1200 24" screen

i was wondering if getting another 8800gt 512mb would be worth getting? only games that i can see improving atm on would be cod4 just abit and crysis and also grid demo (cant run at max settings on the demo) and to prepare for future games like far cry 2 and fall out and alan wake as

or should i improve my cpu first? from a 2mb 2.2Ghz to something better?

Well to me 650i's are the scum of the earth :p

Neh just a joke, you'd be able to run two 8800GT's but if it is actually worth the price I don't know because you have a cripled board (you can only run 16x and 8x if doing SLI) and your CPU isn't all that either.

what mobo would u suggest for a sli configuration i was looking at the 790i mobo or would a 680i mobo do?

(i am mad about my gaming graphics and fps lol)

yea i think my 650i is a bad mobo it wont overclock at all its a ecs mobo (i don't like the make now lol)

sli worth the price tag...i dont think so.

just get one 8800gt its got plenty of power

and headcrabCAKE theres nothing wrong with his CPU,suppose he could overclock it some to make it faster but by all means its not what you say

and your CPU isn't all that either.

thats just it my mobo wont overclock at all lol i cant change the Ghz no matter what i change

only options i have to change is the fsb on the cpu and ram and the multiplier

i set my fsb to 1333 and that didn't even make a single change to the GHZ lol

ohh i see lol, yeah maybe you need a new mobo then, but tbh i would not go SLI,its just a waste of money imo

a 8800GT or HD3870 is more than enough for most of todays games.

and what you will have saved on buying that second card you could get a q6600 processor instead ;)

That would be a better suggestion... Though if his computer is locked that might give problems but I suspect not...

... And I happen to find SLI'd 8800GT's for 260 euro's (350 dollars or so) not too expensive for the price tag :p (it just depends on how cheap you can get them)...

I find the boost in the games I plan to buy quite nice for the price :)

But it's everyones choice, I chose to take two videocards due to wanting to push the limits of it all a bit and to have it run for a long long time without having to change a thing (except software perhaps :p ) :)

did u see a big difference timo when u installed your 2nd graphics card? like 5 more fps? or even 10? or did it allow u to play agmes liek crysis on very high?

I haven't recieved the whole computer yet, though I have seen it run already and did some tests with it.

I turned of SLI and I saw around 45 or 50 frames on CoD4 when turned on 1680*1050 with AA. Though the CPU wasn't overclocked nor were any of the card itself, when I turned SLI on I got about an 80 average but then when I was busy still testing it out at the shop I'm getting it it just shut off after 15 minutes of having a bit of fun. Apparantly there were some wires that were not manufactured correctly in the PSU.

Try and push enough amps through a little itty bitty wire xD the whole system underperformed due to underpowering. And now most likely almost everything is dead... But it's not me who's paying for that anyway :)

Too bad, I was just gonna try overclocking with shop security around me O.O they practically pay everything I do (I'm a regular over there that helps costumers with overclocking, explaining how to and exaplaining what's best to do)... Ah well I can wait some more :)

I had 2 7800GTX's in SLI, and tbh, if the nvidia cards didnt use so much power all the time I would've gone for a new sli pc again. (instead I've decided to give crossfire a chanse ;) ) either way, my 2 7800gtx's performed about par to a 3870, considering that those cards were 3 years older, I dont think thats bad at all. ;)

weither its worth it or not everyone has to make up for themselves tough. I mean, some people pay top dollar for say an instument, while others wouldnt even pay 10 bucks for it. (I suppose youg et my point ;) )

Exactly... Being a guitarist that plays both a cheap as an expensive guitar (and drums and bassguitar for that matter) I feel your argument ^^
