ViewSonic VP171B-2 Black 17" 8ms LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 500:1

is it necessary to have 8ms? or could i go 16ms for cheaper?

should i buy a monitor online or at a store instead? i'm afraid of the dead pixels and dead pixels would annoy the hell out of me

other options:

Gateway - 17" Flat-Panel TFT-LCD Monitor FPD1760
1280 x 1024 resolution; DVI-D input; 16 ms response time; 250 cd/m² brightness; 450:1 contrast ratio

LG - Flatron 17" Flat-Panel TFT-LCD Monitor L1750S
1280 x 1024 resolution; VGA input; 12 ms response time; 250 cd/m² brightness; 550:1 contrast ratio

That monitor looks good, though I wonder how much better it is than my viewsonic...

I'll try and find what my other LCD monitors responce times are and see how much of a difference I can tell between them and my Viewsonic... I know there's no comparison with my old cheap LCD! It's probably about 30ms :P
--edit--
LOL, I was being sarcastic but the thing actually is 30ms responce time

hmm, can you turn off the speakers? that's one thing i try not to get

would you say VIEWSONIC or SAMSUNG?

does LG or NEC compare?
I just spent 2 months decideing,My Son is big on NEC.
I bought the Samsung 997 df,thats a 19 inch.
It give me with my ATI 9000 pro a 100 refresh rate at 1152 x 864
The refresh rate is the biggest improvement .
What is yours now ?

i have an old Philips 15" Monitor, idk what the #ms is though

would you say NEC is a good brand? should i go for VIEWSONIC or SAMSUNG? or would NEC or LG be fine, it's also cheaper :P

This monitor allows me to select my type of lighting and many other options with the include cd drivers.

A good compromise

LG,I gave my 17 to my son and he loves it.

so the brand name doesn't really matter much?

i hear VIEWSONIC is real good, but i know SAMSUNG is a good brand as well

other brands i'm not sure of is NEC, LG, or BENQ - i'm kind of hesistant, but should i be? they're cheaper though, that's a big plus! i just don't want it breaking down on me :(

That should be your last concern if you get a 3 year warranty and at least 1 month to "locally get a no ? asked replacement"
I got 1 year.
People posting monitor problems just don't know how to install them.
They will last a long time if you know how.
You seem determined on VS
I say no and goodby.

if i were you i would get a 19in instead since the price isnt too much between a 17 and a 19 but from 19 to a 20+ is like double in price.

LG ( hitachi ) is a pretty good brand , and i would assume NEC is pretty good to, but I don't know about BENQ

If it comes with a three year warrenty I would'nt worry about the brand...

Yup

I would worry about the brand mainly due to the dead pixel warranty that the different manufacturers have in place. Otherwise, a three year warranty is certainly a good point.

JAN :D

well i'm going to buy my monitor at a store instead just incase i run into deadpixels

and also for a 19" 8ms monitor :) i'll be looking into ACER or LG

thanks for the support :D

can you turn off the speakers?
Well duh ;) You don't even have to connect them if you dont' want them.

I have not tried to compare DVI to VGA yet, but I hear it's suppose to make a big difference...
