Worth upgrading to vista just for DX10?

I am currently running XP pro. I play flight simulator a lot, and I am debating if I should upgrade to vista ultimate. i ran the upgrade advisory, and my PC is definitely fast enough for vista. all my drivers are good.

is it worth it at the moment?

you could use a dual boot option, that way you never really get rid of xp, but how you dual boot is beyond me, i mean i know you need a partition but thats about it, oh yeah and i think it is definatly worth it

Home Premium has become the default between Vista and XP having run the new version since it's release. While some things were changed to a dissatifaction here the new version now with SP1 runs more stable for the most part over XP.

It is a larger version however as expected seeing more features. The UAC or User Account Control acts like a super firewall annoyance and can be easily disabled in the user accounts section of the control panel. The sidebar and Aero style themes are nothing more then eye candy while the Classic Windows theme is still available.

rofl. PC Eye just turned you off. hehe. he's anti vista me thinks. i agree with the UAC thing. every application i want to run always double checks me if i really want to run it.

going back to your question. well, i'm not using vista for gaming since it's installed on my laptop, not desktop. i'd say get vista ultimate so you get the complete package. dx10 should also boost performance a little in games.

let the others with more vista experience enlighten you. ;) i'm still new to vista. :P

performance plus? no. better looks? yeah. gotta tell you, i played bioshock in dx9 and then in dx10 and it really is a difference while playing, it looks awesome now!

hmmm. i have a copy of a australian pc magazine, forgot the title though. lol. it had a review of xp vs vista and said vista running on dx10 gained a few more FPS over XP. but definitely, dx10 looks great.

The Ultimate edition is much like XP Pro to Home seeing more network support in the larger edition for the higher price. Most will want to see the UAC disabled since that prompts a little bit too much on everything while a good freeware like Spyware Terminator with an active guard around the registry or a firewall like Commodo or Jetico Personal serves that purpose well.

Vista recovers from game locks and program crashes far better then XP's own crash control there. That's a plus for Vista so who's knocking it? The other changes made like the removal of the add/remove Windows components not often used was one grievance here.

The "eye candy" themes and sidebar tend to use up more resources when those are used. Vista does use a little more memory then XP while XP uses far more then an older version like 98 seeing a 128mb recommend while 98 was 16mb. So far however there has been far fewer blue screens with Vista over XP being another plus!
