Worthy Upgrade

So I want to go back to Intel, what would be a worthy upgrade over the CPU in my sig? I want to try and go as cheap as possible and I am willing to buy used. Thanks.

2500k or maybe a 2400.
the K can OC really well (~4.7 on air). That would be the best upgrade, when combined with a P67 or Z68 motherboard.

Are you having problems with games/programs? It seems like a lot of trouble to get a new CPU/MoBo/Windows license when nothing is wrong.

Also, what Ghz are you running that 970 at? They overclock very well.

My system seems to be stuttering a lot lately, maybe it's the hard drive I don't know. Is there a good way to test the hard drive? I have it running at stock right now, can't seem to find a stable overclock. And it's no trouble at all, and I don't need to get a new license either.

Well I tried the Windows disk checker, seems it going to take all night so I will do it before bed and let it run all night. I wish there was a faster way to check it.

Yeah, my computer defrags every Tuesday and Friday and I ran a few scanners and showed my Hijack This log to John and he said there wasn't anything out of the ordinary. I tried Crysis Warhead and it froze same with BF3, but I was able to plat Metro 2033 for 2 hours straight without issue. I'm using the 285 drivers, I tried the 290 beta drivers with the same result. I'm going to test my hard drive next.

try HDtune or something like that. It can look at your drives SMART data, and run scans by itself.

Thanks, I used this program before and I was trying to remember the name of it. I do have another 50 gig hard drive but it's not running in RAID, it's just for storage of music and movies. Could that cause minor hiccups in my system?

Not if it's just sitting there being secondary storage. No, I wouldn't think that would be a problem at all.

I would disconnect all hard drives except one from your motherboard and then see if your system is still running poorly.

If that doesn't work try updating your video drivers.

Try running Memtest86+ for about 7 or 8 hours on your system as well to see if you get any errors.

Yeah I ran memtest last night without any errors and I do have the latest drivers. I did a complete system wipe and re-installed Windows, everything seems to be working fine now except BF3, I gave up on that game and I'm ready to give it away, such a headache.

Did you disconnect all your hard drives except the primary drive?

If Battlefield 3 is the only game you are having problems with it is likely the game. It was just released In October so likely patches will be released for it in the future.
