Would i benefit

Depends what your doing... socket 754 athlons dont offer as big an increase as socket 939 would.
 
ok so a new cpu on socket 754 would not make a difference,

i was thinking of a new gpu something like a 5200 or a 5900 nothing over special

as for the ram 512 does the job until ive straigtened out my pc

It will, but not as much as a socket 939 CPU, and like helmie said concntrate on your RAM and video card. I wouldnt get an FX series (Geforce 5), they are infamous for being, well, crappy.
 
1. id get bigger hard drives... say a 200-250gb western digital 7200rpm with an 8mb buffer?
2. id also upgrade that ram, and the video card if youd like to do some gaming.
3. may i suggest a 6 series or a 7 series nvidia card?
