Would I See Much Difference Going from I3 to I7 for Basic Computer Use?

I just got s Windows 7 I3 laptop which I'm more than happy with. I just do basic computer stuff: Surf the internet, download, use word, etc., No gaming or fancy graphics stuff. Given that would I really notice any difference if I had an I7 processor or would it be a waste of money for what I use the computer for?
 
Upgrading a laptop's processor can be extremely expensive, if it is at all possible on your model.

For what you use the laptop for I don't think that you could justify spending the money. You might see a small performance boost, but I doubt it would be anything dramatic.

If you are happy with the laptop leave it as it is :).

If you do want to upgrade it a bit...have a look at the RAM, that's the easiest thing to upgrade in a laptop.
 
NO it would not be worth it at all. The I3 is a decent CPU, quite capable even for gaming.

The BEST upgrade for a laptop is a solid state hard drive hands down. Consumes less battery power, and everything is just faster. Down side is they are really expensive, especially for anything over 120gb. Do you require a lot of hard drive space on your laptop? And/or, how much do you have to spend on this upgrade?

Stick with the i3. I doubt you'd even use the extra cores with anything higher. All you'd get is a toasty lap and shortened battery life :P

Thanks for the info on this which I never thought of before. I'll probably start a separate thread on this as I'd like to learn more.
