Would it be better to get a 37" 1080p T.V. or a 42" 720p one?

Title essentially says it all, they are both around the same price ($900 CAN) the 42" is Samsung, and the 37" is LG.

37" 1080, resoloution over size;) Besides, thinking about it... thats like asking if you want a 1440x900 15" monitor or a 21" 1024x768 monitor:P

Im going to say the 42 inch. Ask the ladies, its all about size. ;D

(Would you really notice the resolution difference, I mean, its a TV, not like a monitor...)

Go with the 42 inch, most of the stuff on basic cable isn't in 1080 your not going to notice either, we got a 37 1080 in the living room, and we only have about 30 channels that are 1080 so its kinda a waste of money for us,

Yes, the larger display is the answer. It will give you more options in terms of seating distance. The difference between 720 and 1080 is meaningless to the human eye. 1080 is more marketing than anything.

Definatly get the 37'' 1080p resolution is much higher then 720p. 1080p is 1920x1200 pixels...720p at most is 1366x768 not to mention some tvs have lower like 1280x720 and 1280x768 so 37'' with give you better graphics.

Depends if you have cable or satelite i reckon, i have quite a few HD channels with directv, and all the channels i watch except for one(military channel) are in HD. Plus you gotta remember, the 720p at the same size will not look nearly as sharp as 1080p to begin with, and then your gonna be just zooming in on a lesser quality picture with a 720.

I'd say the 720p one. As others said, there aren't too many stations airing in 1080, and a 720p TV can still view a 1080 channel.

TV's will scale down no problem. Both of our LCD TVs are 720p and receive 1080 channels. And then mom has a DVD recorder with a digital tuner in it connected to a SD TV. The quality's scaled down, of course, but it works just fine.

go bigger dude. You will not notice the difference between 720 and 1080 at a reasonable distance, you will however notice the size of the viewing area itself.
