Going from a Core 2 Extreme QX6700 to an Core 2 Duo E6700 to save some extra money ($640) so i can use it so buy something extra like a Xbox 360 Elite?
Im going to be using my PC for gaming so would i see a major performance drop for my games if i were to go with the E6700? Or should i just go with the QX6700 considering that the E6700 might be out of date in a year or so?

PS. I dont have either processors yet.

It depends on how future proof you want your pc to be, also how much money you are willing to put into it. I mean, you would probably be fine with something like an E6600 or the likes and just OCing, but if you want your build to last a long time, then invest the money. Just remember, if you spend the $$$ to get a top of the line processor, you have to get top of the line parts to go with it, otherwise you're system will not run to it's full capabilities. If it was me, and I had the money, I would do it, but that's just me.

If you have the money then go with the QX6700. But remember, no mater what parts you get to your computer it wont last top of the line forever.

X6700 has the unlocked multiplier right? That should be reason enough if you're willing to spend the money.

Yep, the QX6700 does have an unlocked multipler, hence the X which means Xtreme on the Intel processors, which is the same as the AMD-FX series I believe. Also, there's another point you may want to consider E-WOODx_FALLENx, do you want to OC or not. Maybe you could take a step down and just go for the Q6600. Like I said it depends on what you need the computer for, and how future proof you want it to be. And nothing will be top of the line forever, especially in the Computer industry. (As Belfong said)

Like i said i will be using my comp for gaming and i will NOT be overclocking... here are some of my other specs

Video Card - 8800GTX
Sound Card - X-Fi Elite
Processor - ?
Power Supply - ThermalTake 750W
Memory - Corsair XMS2 4GB
MotherBoard - ASUS P5N32-E

I at least want to run the newest game that come out in the next year on max...so should i go with the Q6600?

Most of the current games don't utilize 4 cores. So, this mean that there are no difference between Dual core and Quad core in current games.

But future games like Crysis, Alan Wake and HL2 episode 2 will utilize 4 cores.

I was going to get a q6600 but the only thing coming out in the next little while that will use 4 cores is going to be half life 2 episode 2 other than that you should decide with the e6700 or the e6600 either one will play games on max in the next year

trust me I have had people tell me high up in the Bank of Montreal, Cibc and alot of computer stores that qx is a waste of time and money

The e6600 runs all games right now pretty flawlessly. Everyone was right is saying that it might no last forever, but c2d are pretty solid in construction and reliability. Save the money until games come out that can utilize all 4 cores.
