i also posted this in the general discussion, but i usually see more people in here and would like a lot of opinions

hey guys, im thinking of taking a risk with something and trying to start a computer store, building and maintaining computers, kind of like milwaukee pc started, what do you guys think about it? i learn very quick, ive built a lot of computers, it would be a mix between a custom and prebuilt shop, would love to hear opinions of this. i am confident in my building skills, the only thing is i would have to move somewhere that i would be able to start this up because theres next to no demand for something like this in sheboygan, but i have friends that work at best buy, and they tell me how much money that the company makes on all of the cords and everything else, i think all this would take to work would be a good partner, a good location, and a great work ethic

As much as I would like you to succeed I see one problem. Anyone smart enough to see the value of a handbuilt computer is probably also smart enough to build it themselves.

You definitely need to go to a location where the demand is high for computer products and components. Be careful, think this out thoroughly. I have seen many small businesses fail due to lack of planning and there is usually no one to blame but the business owner themself.

i understand that, but thats where buying in somewhat bulk comes handy, you can get a discount, and then you just have to mark it up enough to get your name out there at first, and the big part of making money is with accesories, i realize that theres a possibility that it might not work out though, but every company has to start somewhere

Me and a few of my friends are going to start up something in my area. We have been planning it for a while. Its just going to be a small thing to start with, and once we get a good customer base then we will call it an actual business. We will start with friends computers, those friends will tell their friends about us, ect.

Yeah twitchtwice has a good plan. And footballdude2k3, you need to have allot of money to simply buy in bulk to make more money in the long run. Starting off small is the way to go. I wouldn't go quiting you day job until you are 100% confindent that you can do this successfully. Start small, slow and steady wins the race.

I understand that, im nowhere near ready to give up everything and put it allinto this, it is something that i would like to start small and see if it is worth getting into, word of mouth, maybe a website and just see how it goes

All you need to do in life is find something that someone else doesn't want to do. So they come to you with some money to do it for them. In our case, fix computers for the computer ignorant. =]

Start in your garage or something. Going big and the next day bankrupt isn't exactly good. Start with small reputations and gain it slowly, then move to a bigger store when it gets crowded in there.
