would this processor = AMD Athlon FX-60
fit in this board = ms-7184

yes before people say i know its old its a temp board cost me £10 as my other boards usbs fried and my son was born a few weeks ago so expensive times atm lool or whats the best processor that could handle please thanks
 
It should.

The CPU is socket 939 and the Motherboard has a 939 socket. So it should fit. Make sure you align it correctly and just drop it into place. You shouldn't need to apply any pressure whatsoever.
 
I honestly have no idea. I just googled the two parts and saw that they both have the same socket.

Edit: From the little bit of info that I just read it's supposed to be pretty much the fastest CPU for that socket. 2.6 ghz dual core. It appears to be the socket before AM2 and that's still a couple generations back.

The MS-7184 is actually an OEM motherboard. What model of computer is this in? HP, Emachines? We would have to go back to the manufacturers website to get what cpu's it supports.

You can also check out these Newegg reviews, several of which claim it's the best processor for the socket so I don't think you'll be able to find anything better and since it's so old it would be way more expensive to buy a socket 939 processor vs a current AM3+ processor.

I'm not questioning you John, just curious, but what with it being OEM, how would that change the compatability of a socket 939 CPU with it?

Just because its a socket 939 doesnt mean it supports all 939 procesors. Even less of a chance because its a OEM board. Because OEM are not that famous for bios updates for processor upgrades and alot of OEM are lowerend boards and cant support upper end processors anyway.

Like his if its a HP board, it looks like it just supports up to a Athlon 64 X2 4800.

yes it's a dual core but what board are you talking about, but either way it is a dated cpu, better to get any athlon or phenom II
 
Did anybody read post 8? HP, Compaq/ same thing. It will support up to a Athlon 64 X2 4800

there are 2 4000+'s, one for am2 and 1 for 939 or whatever socket, it is 2.4ghz, so i don't think it's worth the/any money for the extra .2ghz, save to get a new mobo and newer cpu.
