Would this me a waste of money?

I'm buying this laptop primarily for school. The most graphical/memory heavy thing I will be doing is playing N64 roms; all I require is that my N64 roms play 100% without lag (the normal roms, that is - not the ones that have defects and the likes). Anyway, this is the laptop I bought from Dell yesterday (sorry for the length, I just dont want to leave anything out:

I bought the Dell Vostro 1500 with these specs:

223-5520 1 Intel Core 2 Duo T8100, 2.1GHz, 800Mhz, 3M L2 Cache
320-5543 1 15.4 inch Wide Screen XGA LCD display with TrueLife
311-7391 1 3GB, DDR2, 667MHz 2 DIMM
320-5558 1 128MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS
341-6310 1 320GB Hard Drive, 5400RPM, forDell Vostro 1500 Notebook
420-8259 1 Windows XP Pro-SP2 + Vista Ultimate with Media
430-0493 1 Integrated 10/100 Network Cardand Modem, for Inspiron
410-1100 1 Adobe Reader 8.1
313-5297 1 8X DVD+/-RW w/ double-layer DVD+R write capability
313-4783 1 Integrated High Definition Audio 2.0
313-5303 1 Dell Wireless 1505 Wireless-N Internal Card
320-5547 1 No Built in Camera 1500
412-0998 1 Dell Exclusive MediaDirect Instant Play Software Application
410-1054 1 No Anti-Virus/ Security Software requested
312-0545 1 85 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery, for Vostro 1500
310-9211 1 Dell Large Nylon Carrying Case
412-0379 1 No software package
989-5827 1 No Warranty 2 + 3
983-3920 1 Warranty Support,Initial Year
986-5190 1 Contract - Mail-In Service, 24x7 Technical Support, 1yr
989-5877 1 Dell Hardware Limited Warranty Plus Mail In Service Initial Year
900-9987 1 Standard On-Site Installation Declined
420-7179 1 Dell DataSafe 2.0 Online, No Install
420-7185 1 Dell Support 3.4, No Install
420-7189 1 Dell Network Assistant
462-4506 1 Purchase is NOT intended for resell
310-8319 1 Intel Core 2 Duo Processor
310-8624 1 You have chosen a Windows XP System

This whole custom-built bundle costed a total of $1,391, plus exactly $100 tax.

If you noticed "Windows XP Pro-SP2 + Vista Ultimate with Media" when you were scrolling down, what this means is that it is delivered with XP Professional preinstalled, but it gives me the media to install Vista Ultimate when I so choose. And, if I dont like ultimate, it gives me the media to install back into XP Professional.

Alright now. Here is the initial question. I have ordered these components to be built into it and sent to me on the 18th:

1) Intel Core 2 Duo T8100, 2.1GHz, 800Mhz, 3M L2 Cache, and
2) 3GB, DDR2, 667MHz 2 DIMM

To upgrade from [1] to:

1) Intel Core 2 Duo T9300, 2.5GHz, 800Mhz, FSB/6MB Cache

Would cost me $250.

To upgrade from [2] to

2) 4GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz, 2 DIMM

Would cost me $125.

For what I am using it for, would $375 be a waste of money? I am paying for this with student loans, and I am going to Medical school for the next 16 years, I'm sure. It is an Unsubsidized loan, so it wont collect interest until I stop going to school. I was told by my cousin, "Dont count your chickens," which is very true, but I plan on not getting a new laptop for a long, long time, possibly 8-10 years. Because I dont play video games, and all I will ever be doing on this laptop in the next 8-10 years is the same thing I am doing on my desktop right now, I doubt that I will ever need to get a new one, until this one keels over, that is.

So, how much better would it really even be, if I had that upgrade?

Say, I am using Photoshop CS3, Windows Internet Explorer, Windows Media Player 11, Yahoo! Messenger, AIM and MyspaceIM all at the same time; will the "Intel Core 2 Duo T8100, 2.1GHz, 800Mhz, 3M L2 Cache" with 3GB RAM handle that with ease? If not, will the T9300?

I just dont want to waste my money, as all. If I left anything out, just IM me. Good luck!
