upgrading from 768mb ram to 1GB ram

for this:

I am trying to play Bioshock on my sempron 3400+ with 768MB RAM and a Geforce 8400GS:P. Other people on the internet say they can play it with 800x600 with at least most settings on high, but that does not work for me very well. These people are using like core 2 duo (~1.6ghz?) and 2GB ram.

Thanks

1. What computer do you have?
2. How much money are you willing to spend on the ram? (you can get 2gb's for about $25)
3. what o/s do you have?

The requirements for the game are 1gb, but I STRONGLY recommend doubling that. If you computer supports 2gb's (which it should with that graphics card) it will run SO MUCH better with 2gb's. Just a tip - never go with the requirements for a game.

the 8400gs will not play the game on high at any resolution, unfortunetely. i am assuming you are using a socket 754 motherboard? in which case your ram would be ddr400 right?

so no, i think your video card is holding you back the most of all.

The video card is above the recommended specs for the game. I would either

1. Invest in another graphics card if you can + get 2gb's of ram

or

2. Get at least 2gb's ram

yeah I think I have a socket 754. It is a HP Compaq Sempron 3400+ running WinXP Home.

I'm not expecting to play games at very high solutions, just maybe around 800x600 with some high settings. The game stutters sometimes and I think it runs at an average of maybe 27-33FPS. However, this is once I overclock my video card (I increased the core clock by over 100mhz and the mem clock by like 30mhz lol, not very wise huh). I'm wondering if I set priority for the game to high in task manager and turn off Zone Alarm and Kaspersky will make the game run faster. Right now, I have shaders and the detail processing thing on and am running at 640x480 lol.

Also, where do you see 2GB ram for $25?

I'm thinking of getting a new video card, but I think I might wait a little bit for the Geforce 9900 series or the Radeon HD 4000's.

well, you wont be able to use those probably. does your motherboard have AGP or PCI-E? If AGP, your best choice is the AGP ATi 3850, which isn't bad at all, and should play that game.

I have a PCI-E, but I might get a better computer soon, so I don't think I want a new card.
I just need something that will allow me to play games for these couple of months.
Do you think an extra 256MB ram for a total of 1GB make Bioshock faster?
