Hello,

My Pc has always struggled with even the low graphics games, which is why i want to buy a PCI graphics card for it, ive seen the PCI ATI Radeon 9200 128mb Special Edition, DVI & TV Out for £45 on ebay, would this be compatible with my computer, this is all i know about it-

MS WIndows XP SP2
AMD Athlon XP 1700+
1.47ghz
352 MB Ram
S3 Graphics ProSavage 8a26

i know that my computer has got one of those shared graphics cards, which is why it is so bad, but what mb graphics is mine?,

with the new graphics card
all i want to play is stuff like doom 3, and maybe age of the empires 3, but i dont think my computer got a chance of playing that

the 9200 series is not going to cut much mustard with games like doom 3, but then nor will the xp 1700+
 
im not sure how much that is in US$, but you can get a new ATI 9250 128MB AGP from newegg for about $38.
 
your not going to be able to play the games you want with the 9200 series, i have a 9200se and i cant play any top end games (check out my sig)
 
Hey now, my Tbird 1.4 and Radeon 8500 played Doom3 on low settings at a fairly constant 20FPS. It seems the XP1700 and 9200 should do a bit better...

It's still playable -- much more so than the S3. Hell you can play Doom3 on a GF2MX

Its using 32MB of system memory

Hehe begs a question .... is the 9200 better than the 8500? (that is, for the record, a rhetorical question)

it depends on what you have it set too, you can change the value of how many mbs you let it use in your bios...

for instance my onboard shared video card can be changed between 32mb, 64mb, and 128mb. but since it wont work for the games i want to play anyways i keep mine set to a low setting (32mbs) that way i still have 480mbs (out of the 512mbs of ram that i have) to run my computer with, the more ram you share the less ram you have for your applications and the slower your computer will run

Well judging from the amount of available memory you should be able to figure it out :)

Really i cant play doom3 at a playable level on my rig using my 9300se, even when i overclocked it (not that overclocking it will help much)
 
i dont get it, these are doom 3's specs-

3D hardware Accelerator Card Required – 100% DirectX® 9.0b compatible
64MB Hardware Accelerated video card and the latest drivers*.
Pentium IV 1.5 GHz or Athlon 1500+
384MB RAM

so if it only needs 64mb card, why wont it work if i but a 128mb card, and my processor is 1700+, doom only needs 1500+, also if i upgrade to 1 gb ram, does this help games, or am i just trying to upgrade a way outdated piece of junk!!

Hell, you know what, i think i'll just get doom 3 for my xbox, it would be a whole easier!!!, :rolleyes:

does the graphics differ to the pc version? :confused:
 
With the X-Box version the graphics you're going to be getting versus the graphics you'd get on your computer are going to be better and the game will run faster. With a much better computer, though, Doom III can far exceed the graphics and framerate of the X-Box version.

thats way to much for a 9200 :eek:
if i were you, i would look for a geforce fx 5700 on pci if i were you. :)
