Would Upgrading To This Significantly Boost Processing Speed?

I am currently using an AMD Athlon 4000+ (2.4 Gigahertz) Socket 939 Single Core Processor. My processor has also has 1024 kilobytes of Level 2 Cache. If I upgraded to the below processor would I see a significant boost with my Linux Operating System speed? Boot ups and shut downs are a little slow since I am using 64-bit Ubuntu.

AMD Athlon 4200+ (2.2 Gigahertz) Socket 939 Dual Core Processor.
2 x 512 kilobytes of Level 2 Cache
Manufacturer Part Number ADA4200DAA5BV

I would have to say no, not in most situations. If you work with programs that are coded to use multiple cores than you might see a boost in those apps, but with others you prob wont. This is especially true considering the processor you are looking at is clocked lower than the one you have!

My operating system is threaded to utilize a dual core. The reason I want a dual core processor is for my Linux Operating System and I am looking to purchase Windows Vista in the future. Vista runs too slow on single core processors in my opinion.

Edit: Any other opinions on this possible upgrade?

It would be cheaper for me to get an AMD Opteron 175 Dual Core (2.2 gigahertz) Socket 939 Processor for $150 than to have to buy a whole new motherboard, RAM, and processor (and possibly a video card) to upgrade to a Socket AM2 Dual Core Processor.

to tell the truth the processor won't make a difference. Atleast i Don't Think so. Whats wrong w/ your current one?

I would just overclock my cpu instead of upgrading to a cpu where you won't notice the difference, waste of money...

Thanks for all the advice. After considering all my options, I think I am going to keep my current processor and go with a better video card.
