Would Vista Run on my Rig?

It would "barely run and not well with only 512mb of ram installed. You could barely check your email. Some are getting by with a 1gb installed while a good 2gb of ram will see a good average machine run especially with gaming and large programs running. The new features included seem to grab more basic memory to start with. The video card is also on the old side where replacing that for driver support has to be considered as well.

Oh, OK. Thanks!

you can run home basic.

Would Home Premium run with the Home Basic theme and minumum applications on startup? :D

EDIT: I just did the Vista Upgrade Advisor and it said that the system is good enough except the fact that I should have more RAM.

Well the first item of concern is the 512mb of ram currently installed. You will need to boost that first and then consider moving up on the video card for driver support. The board, cpu, and drive wouldn't be any problem. The Home Premium edition is just under the Ultimate followed by Business and then Basic at the bottom.

The Vista advisor does lack a little on advising at times since it will depend on the type of case you run. For gaming and things like video capturing/editing and certainly multimedia memory is needed along with a newer card. You are looking at those two items mainly.

i wouldnt even consider running vista if you dont have at least 1Gb of ram ;)

i think it will just be realy slow.

I was already running two 1gb dimms on the board here when installing Home Premium as a second OS to move XP Pro over. The desktop is a little slower to reach over XP with 2gb while it's not a problem but due to newer security features plus the Windows Defender now seen. The gain between Ultimate and Home Premium isn't anything to write home about there. The hardware protection feature is something new seen in the Ultimate. The other three don't really do that much.

id feel more comfortable with more RAM if i wre you , iono bout ur video card , HDD is ok but home basic is at best
