Um, my HDD was acting up, I'm gonna RMA it but now for some odd reason, my AMD Phenom II x4 955 is at 800MHz according to CPU-Z at a multiplier of 4.0 and the BIOS says it's at 3.2GHz

What's goin on here?

A GA-MA790X-UD4P... I just updated BIOS, and now it's fine at 3.2GHz... weird though.

Yer i read somewhere that if some AM3 Motherboards are backwards compatible sometimes they only have the BIOS settinsg for AM2+ or whatever. Seems odd considering its main priority is AM3. Glad you have it working now though :good:

WRONG!!! Its AMD COOL AND QUIET. it underclocks ur cpu to 800mhz when ur not doin anything to help stay cool

Lies that. I have AMD Cool & Quiet on and when i leave it and not using it, it never underclocks my CPU + He was using his computer when this was happening so W R O N G :)

haha :D, it was a bois issue, ive heard mutliple people have this problem, and once they updated the bios, BAM! problem solved:good:

Well, the thing is it worked before and it just happened. I doubt it was really a BIOS version problem, but a BIOS problem that was corrected by an update.

More then likely CoolnQuiet kicked in, you need to disable it in the bios and set your power options to always on.

That made no sence at all. AM2/+ processors will not even fit in a AM3 socket boards. He has a AM2+ board anyway.

Naw, I think on a first boot after unplugging some wires, the CPU goes to a very low clock to make sure heat isn't an issue.

Because I disabled Cool n' Quiet before entering Windows

I have no idea what that means.

You do know I have the same board and have installed alot of them and never had any of the problems your talking about with the settings I said.

I did some case cable management, and I had to rewire some stuff... On my first boot on this computer and the last boot, it went to a very low clock even after disabling cool&quiet and configuring the power options. I think it's to ensure that the CPU won't overheat on the actual default...

My theory anyways.

Dont know about any of that, never had it happen to me.
I found F5 to be the most stable bios unless you have one of the just released Athlon II and have to use F7/8

no, its cool and quiet, it may not up the speed if your only doing low stuff, like internet, word processing, etc. when he did the bios update it probably reset the settings and turned it off.
