so i got my new computer up and running finally, but with a really old crappy video card until i get the 9600XT and WinFast sent to me. but im tryin to play divx video file(s) from a DVD data disc on windows media player and it just wont play....the visualiztion thing will show up but now video or sound and WMP will kinda freeze up and say its playin at 192 kbps for some reason. it also says the video is 3 hours long (its actually 20 min). i had dr divx installed, unintalled it and installed and reinstalled standard divx three times and still nothing has changed. need help please *cough*Praetor*cough*

Go to this link and you can get Nimo Codec Pack 5. When you install it make sure you select all versions of the divx to be certain you get the ones you need otherwise just install it with the 'Full' option. hope this helps.

wow, talk about step-by-step! lol, thanks a lot...ill try that and see where it gets me.

my new computer isnt hooked up to internet, but luckily i got one of those 256MB USB sticks!

so apparently it was just the DVD it was burned onto, there was some kind of error when it was burned. oh and on that codec list i dont think there is one for .m2v files, cause i followed all the steps and installed the codecs and couldnt play those files...so just a suggestion to add that

M2V your MPEG2 elementary video stream file. You will need to geta MPEG2 codec installed (and to get the codec installed you need a DVD player -- which is listed in that thread :P)

:)

yeah its working...the dvd mustve just been bad.

one problem completely unrelated...i got my Leadtek WinFast XP TV2000 Expert today and im tryin to install the software and i keep getting a Warnig box that says "Not Supported - " .... kind goes along with the wtf? topic

For one thing Window media player isn't one the best player, try using thirdparty player.
But WMP makes for a very good test bed because it is not the best -- if it works on WMP odds are it will work everywhere :)

well, if we are talking about DVD w/WMP b4 you play some DVD you have add codec like aces codec, but my point is that if he having problem with the quality of WMP maybe he should something else, cuz WMP sux for playing DVD the quality of the picture is just not there verses something like power DVD.

Good point, my above comments were in reference to all non MPEG2 based media as WMP has MPEG2 issues galore
