Ok so im gona get an AMD cpu very soon

Basically i want to know if its really worth spending a lil more cash and getting X2??

Wud i see a noticable difference in these CPU's. And i mean noticable not a couple more points in 3dmark or something like that :D

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ (Socket 939)

around 180 - 190 pounds

OR

AMD Athlon 64 4000+ San Diego 90nm (Socket 939)

around 190 - 200 pounds

What 1 is better??

Thx in advance

id go with the dual core. its overclockable easily to 2.4ghz and it costs less. it'll probably benefit you more min 3dmark than the 4000+ would. dual core is really nice, i must say.. just make sure you have at least 1gb of ram, i'd suggest two... otherwise you run out of ram before you run out of cpu resources normally.

ye i will be getting 2 gigs of ram.

will i easily be able to run the high end game like FEAR, HL2 etc with that cpu , a geforce 7600 Extreme edition, and 2 gigs of ram?

The X2 3800+ is a dual-core CPU, which is effectivly two Athlon 64 3200+'s. So the X2 3800+ will perform much better in multi-threaded environments, such as newer games, photo/video/audio and rendering applications, and when your running several applications at the same time.

However in games that arent multi-threaded, the Athlon 64 4000+ will perform significantly better. I would strongly suggest you go with the X2 3800+, especially if you plan on playing newer games.

although i heared some games have problems running on dual cores.
It only happens ocassionaly to a few people, and it's very easy to fix.

You can run all those games, but you wont be able to play them maxed out at a high resolution.

you will with a 7900gt... its like twice the money though.
i'll sell you my extra 7800gt for $200 lol

ok but i live in the uk

Thankyou for all ur replies. I have also read on these forums about games crashing on dual core. but its only a few that have had problems, and im pretty sure the majority dont have problems. K that settles it then i will be getting the 3800 X2.

Ye i play all my games on 1024 x 768

Will it handle this without a problem. Does any1 find having the resolution up to high hurts ur eyes. Or is that just because ive got a crap monitor and computer??

well if your moniter is an lcd, that's probably the problem, go with a mid range CRT moniter and your fps problems will cease (with that new setup your going for)

<opinion> Do NOT get the 7600, its crap you can find way better cards by ati that are better, only go with nvidia if your going high-end </opinion>
