X1900XT 256 or 512?

how much performace will differ from the 256mb version of the X1900XT to the 512mb version, they both have the same core/memory speeds so i was just wondering, cause there is a big price difference.

You won't notice a massive difference seeing as how no games need 512mb of GDDR3 ram..soo...go with the 256 and save yourself a good bit.

Where are you seeing an X1900XT 256mb model? After going through a good number of brands the only ones seen with 256mb are the X1300 series up through the X1800 series cards.
 
If you're going to get a high-end video card, you should get the 512MB model, since it will help in some games.

And I've never seen a 256MB x1900XT before, only the x1900GT.
 
gecube also make one. but ive bought the 512mb card, and another gig of ram, my system should be alright now :) 2 gig of ram and 512 gfx, its going to be sweet. anyways, thanks for your input guys.
 
I still have an Asus 128mb GeForce FX5200 running in an old Socket A case that does the job there. The build looks good and should work out there.

If you had been directing that to me I could very well agree on that. The cpu in the case at the moment is the AMD64 3500+ 2.2ghz single cored cpu. The introduction of the dual cored models was only recent. With the dual cored models if you start seeing performance drops Microsoft has a special fix. It's the same used for multiple cpued boards. Lately you can still find the article but not the download page for it. :confused:

depends on the games you plan on playing. it'll make a diff. if you only have 1gb of system memory in single channel lol... and you're playing quake 4!
personally i went for 512mb because i play a lot of graphics memory intensive games, like quake 4 on ultra settings... and even doom 3 is quite memory intensive but less so. i mean, its definitely a better choice because games will become much more demanding in years to come...
 
Besides the memory on any video card the amount of system memory can have a big part in overall performance as well as in games. The newer games go after that more then video memory alone.
