x2 4200+

Just wondering if anyone knows if the X2 4200+ processor comes with thermal grease? I just found out that it comes with a heatsink and fan (saved me $30 on my Newegg total :-)) So I was wondering if anyone knew about the thermal grease because that would save me another $11.

Thanks,

25*C??? Nice. I run at about 33*C without cool and quiet running(stock cooler and pad, of course)

That 25 C is according to Everest Home Edition, and I'm not sure I trust it completely, but it is the best I got and I figure even if it is off some, the processor seems to run cool...

you are not running 25C that probe is not connected so its spitting out a bogus value. 25C is lower than the ambient temp for most people and that would be physically impossible with air cooling or water cooling.

Actually, 25 C is the idle/low usage temp; under heavy load it will get up to 30 - 33.

Oh, and 25 C is 77 F, which a pretty hot ambient temp. (i.e. indoor temp); I personally have my AC set to 72 when it gets bad outside.

do you know how efficient a cooler has to be to cool the very hot cpu inside a case to close to ambient temperature? It just doesnt happen with air cooling. its simple high school physics.

You are making the assumption that the CPU is very hot all the time, at IDLE the CPU is probably not putting out very much heat and wouldn't take too much to keep cool. I've taken high school and college physics, as well as graduate level thermodynaics, and believe that, while the efficiency of the cooler is important, the amount of heat the CPU is actually putting out is also a major factor.

Anyone know what temp an uncooled CPU runs a at idle?

I wouldn't be surprised if the temp monitor was off by a few degrees, but since I do get different readings under load and such, I think it probably is connected.
