I would suggest go for AM2, but get a 3800 X2 and decent RAM. Even at stock speeds, these CPU's pack enough punch to do pretty much anything you throw at it. And, if you do plan on overclocking, 3800's overclock well.

If you're comparing them side by side, the X2 4800+ would be much better, however you wont be able to upgrade much seeing how the X2 4800+ is one of the highest 939 CPU's.

They make a 4800 and a 5000 X2 AM2, think Mwave or Zipzoomfly had the 5000 for about a day when they first came out

AMD has stopped production on their X2 line of CPU's which have 1MB of L2 Cache. So the 4800+ isnt being produced anymore.

Why? Just curious.

Why? Just curious.

Because producing 1MB of L2 cache on chips costs them alot more money, since they cant make as many wafers due to the space that the cache would take up.

Also because customers were complaining since they were getting really confused with all the different speeds and such.
