X3210 core temps

Running an x3210 (same as Q6400) and I'm getting odd temps. The first two cores run WAY hotter than the other two. Right now I have it OC'd to 3.4ghz with 1.60 Vcore, and the first too cores run 15c hotter-

Now I've tried reseating the HSF, and re-doing the thermal compound. Neither made any difference. So is there any explanation for this? Thats a hell of a difference IMO, never had that much before. It's keeping me from getting 3.6ghz stable, cuz the first two cores get too hot.
 
Try rotate that heatsink or lap it. The base of heatsink might be uneven or crooked. Is that pushpin type?
Take the heatsink out and put on a piece of glass to check or test with a razor blade.

That's a heatsink renowned for having a very unflat base.

Also, 1.6V is crazy voltage... past what I'd recommend on air, even for a 65nm CPU.

The high voltage and 65nm manufacturing process also explains your high temperatures.
 
I'm not complaining about high temps, I'm complaining about uneven temps. I will try lapping the TRUE and rotating it.

Nothing wrong with the voltage as long as it doesn't go over TJmax.

I didn't say you were complaining about temperatures, but they are rather high...

Lapping the TRUE should be good for a decent temperature drop, but you should consider either pressure or washer modding it too, since its stock mounting pressure isn't great as it is, and the more you take off the heatsink base with lapping, the less the pressure will be.

Also, about the voltage thing: That's wrong. the TJMax is just a temperature thing, you can still kill CPUs with too much voltage before they hit their TJMax.

Thats prime95 load temp you know? It's also 60% overclocked. Stock clock is 2.13ghz. At 1.675 and 3.6ghz the first two cores hit 100c in about a minute while the other two cores are at 85c. So if all the cores were that lower temp I really think I could get 3.6ghz stable.

The mounting pressure on mine seems to be very tight, I don't even have it screwed in the entire way because it seemed extremely tight and I did not want to damage anything.

I've seen 1.80 Vcore pushed through this chip on air, I'm not worried. This is my backup rig I'm fooling with.

I thought you could use a Vdroop MOD.....but I have no experience with Nvidia chipset at all.
But really, that's just too much Vcore applied. Too much heat generated before you could even do anything.
@ 3.50GHz all you need is about 1.42500v (based on Intel's chipset) .......so go easy as needed more.

Supposedly this board is suppose to overclock as good if not better than most P45/X48 boards, or so I've read about it. Maybe I just got a bum chip?
