x800 gto2

i bought that ati x800 gto2 and i was what if requires a current psu because mine is 450 watts and doesn't have the type of wire so any help would be good
 
do i need a power cord?i asked the company i bought it of they said no but i don't want to take a chance u know.i try it with out the cord and it makes a beeping sound.
 
Is it a PCI-e card you're buying, if it does need one, then your PSU would probably have one on, does it?

I also found this, which confuses me as I can't tell if it does or doesn't...

But perhaps the biggest giveaway that all is not what it seems is the inclusion on the board of a PCI-E power connector; the standard X800 doesn't have or need any additional power. The X800 GTO2 is, in fact, a classic example of why you should never judge a book by its cover.

Take a look at your powersupply, it should have them on, or most of the time, the card will come with a adaptor to turn a molex connector into a PCI-e connector.

Yeah, but you're getting the GTO2 aren't you?
I think it's saying the standard doesn't need one, but the GTO2 does, just because it's similair doesn't mean it it's the same, I think that's what it's trying to say...
 
it does need the power cord because it has a fan on it and the fan won't run wit out power

Cards can draw power through the motherboard, when they're plugged in, some use it to power the fan.
 
its on board graphics but it has a pci e would that have anything to do with it and i can't find that cord but i did find a simliar cord connected to the mob
 
On board graphics? I thought you were getting a card?

The cord plugged into your motherboard is the 4 pin power connector, that isn't it.
 
I,m lost, are you saying your using onboard or X800. If your using a X800 and dont have a PCIe power connector on your P/S then you need to get one of these

The one on newegg doesnt get good reviews, something about the way its wired. If you have a small local computer shop they would probable have one. The reason you dont see many is because most retail cards that need a PCIe power connector come with one.
