My brother has a x800 SE in his computer. I belive he has a 256 bit version. I dont know much about this version of the card. How does this card compare to 9800 xt.

1/ Its superior
2/ The breakdown

X800SE
Core: R420
Speed: 425/400
Pipe Structure: 8x4
Memory: 256MB GDDR3 256bit

9800XT

Now it might seem that the X800SE isnt that much better but if you consider that the X800SE can be somewhat easily and reliably softmoded to an X800Pro and in some rare *rare* chances, to a X800XT (pixel shaders only, vertex shaders should be locked)

How would you go about doing this and how riskey is this. I have read that sometime the extra pipes are dead pipes and if you enable them you can kill the whole card.

Damn near no risk unless you're a complete dolt and get involved with BIOS hacks or voltage mods. Since its a softmod you can just undo :)

Well if it doesnt work .. you um... undo it. Thats why its a softmod.

I dont have an X800SE so i dunno the specifics ... should be like the X800Pro though (i.e., RivaTuner)

Actually, the pixel pipes, memory/core clock speeds and RAM type (DDR/GDDR3) are the only differences from x800SE to x850Pro, they all have 6 vertex shaders so you may be able to mod it to a much faster card if you're lucky

Yeah i thought that was bit odd when i wrote that cuz the X700s had 6 vertex too.
