X800 XL help

I just finished installing an Arctic Cooling ATI Silencer 5 onto my Gigabyte X800 XL.

Now whenever i turn the computer on, it wont boot and i get one long beep and two short ones, which is a video error.

I have tried reseating the card several times, and even reset CMOS just for the heck of it to no avail.

The only thing i can think of is that i may have damaged something when installing it? The stock cooler was very stubborn, this is the passively cooled version of this card and the stock cooler is a beast and didnt want to come off, but it did with some persuasion.

Any other thoughts?

Contact between the core and cooler should be fine, everything went together perfectly and it was only on for a couple seconds, and i didnt think a video card would fry that fast.

I can pretty much assume the video card is dead... it may of been on for only a few seconds but it only takes a few seconds for it to fry. Video cards heat up very very fast. Im guessing the GPU went south and overheated... did you clean off the old thermal paste and reply some new thermal paste when you installed the cooler? Did you apply cooling to the ram chips?

Another possibility but is very unlikely, is that a component was killed due to static. Only takes the tiniest bit of static shock to kill a chip.

Try reinstalling it and use arctic silver 5 on the GPU, hopefully it's not damaged.

yes i cleaned the old thermal paste off, and there was thermal paste pre-applied to the cooler in all the right spots.

I just really cant think of anything else, I may have to just accept the fact that somehow i killed it.

The only other possibility is that the PCI-E slot is screwed up. I may try the card in another computer tomorrow, but all my friends are probably sleeping right now, and this is the only PCI-E computer i have.

I might just cry if i killed it, a nearly 300 dollar investment including the cooler, down the effin tubes.

and i bought this cooler so i could OC to play Oblivion if i had too! so much for Oblivion now:(
