Stairsnpairs

I have the old Xbox 360 Pro that has nothing but an HDMI port, 20 GB HD and 2 red flashing lights. Microsoft wants $100 for repair /replacement. I have a few options: Repair /replace, buy any two of the current versions, or buy a refurbished Pro version 60GB for $179, with an optional 2 year extended warranty for $20. Not sure where to go on this one lolz. I like installing the games on my hard drive, so I'm sort of leaning away from the repair because I want a bigger HDD.

2 red flashing lights. Xbox's official term for it is "overheating". I called support and the guy was really helpful. He said that I could get it repaired from a third company for cheaper, with warranties. He gave me the names of the companies, however, I think I'm about done with the old gen consoles.

Anyways, 2 red lights. Support said it needs replacement.

Refurbed pro for $180 isn't a great deal, considering you can get a slim for $200. You can get a refurbed 20GB pro from Gamestop right now for $100, but only a 90 day warranty which isn't great.

If you want a good deal on an XBox, you might check your local Craigslist. Microsoft warranties all the consoles before the slim for 3 years against RRoD, so look for one from 2009 or 2010 and you basically have a free warranty. The manufacture date is printed on the back, just make sure the warranty sticker under the face plate hasn't been broken.

Great points.

I found some nice priced consoles on CList for cheap.

Elite 120GB, Wireless controller, wireless adapter (which I need btw) $140.

or

60GB Hard Drive, Video and Power cables, Wireless Controller, Headset,
512MB Microsoft memory card, Media Remote, You Don't Know Jack (trivia game), Earth Defense Force 2017. $140 as well.

However, Xbox support online says:

The warranties are:
Xbox 360 console: One year
Original Xbox 360 console with three flashing red lights or error E74: Three years from the console purchase date (not applicable to the Xbox 360 S console)

Does it sound like it applies only to the 60GB? Or should the Elite be covered as an "original" console?

Elite is covered as an original consoles, the only ones not covered are the Slims. I'd say the Elite is definitely the best deal since those wireless adapters still run about $50. The extra stuff included with the other console isn't that great.
