Xbox 360 Live issues. Complicated setup

Ok, so I don't have a normal setup. I run wireless networking at my house. G speed. My Cable modem 15mbps is upstairs with my wireless router. My Xbox is downstairs. In order to get them on the network I applied new firmware (dd-wrt) to turn my old router into a wireless gateway bridge. I am having problems with Xbox live. I tried opening ports on both routers, but no luck. any ideas, or will this just not work??

Are you positive the DD-WRT router is set to receive a signal from your broadcasting router?

Have you tried connecting a laptop to that WRT and then trying to get on the internet that way? You would need to actually set-up the connections manually if you haven't yet because they won't automatically connect to each other. The other option that you have is if you have a computer near the 360, you can use that as a gateway as well. I did it for several years, and it worked great, even if I was using XBox Live and the computer at the same time. If you have interest in that set-up I can go through that in more detail.

I do have internet access. I have also can connect to xbox live, and have done audio chat with a friend 80 miles away over it. So I know it has internet access, its just when I click on Test Xbox Live connection I get the error that says "you can connect to Xbox Live, but your current network configuration may limit your online experience. Select more info for a description of the problem"

More info says "Your NAT type is Moderate. People on networks with this NAT type may not be able to join certain games or hear other people while playing online. For the best online experience, you need an open NAT configuration."
