Xbox 360 to get a Blu Ray Drive??

yeah, that article is really old. Apparently those extra layers are what does it, but that can definitely be added to the Blu-ray as well. A more recent article in Game Informer quotes the NPD research groups as having the current sales of Blu-ray sales being almost 4x that of HD-DVD.

The main downfall is that sony told the adult industry, NO blu ray for you. What an idiotic mistake considering there are on average 12,000 adult DVDs pressed every year. That is a very huge market.

You mean...NO 1080p PORN!!! NOOOOOOOOOOO! :D
But seriously, I doubt greatly that most porn producers would have the funds or the means to create and distribute HD porn. Unless, of course, they added a bonus "making of" film :D

i think the numbers now are 70% of sales are Blu ray and 30% are HD DVD, probably because of the number of titles on Blu Ray - 5 major movie studios producing their movies on it compared to 3 for HD DVD

While it has already been said countless times in this thread...

If Microsoft had any plans for a Blu-ray player for the 360 it would simply be asinine (stupid, unintelligent, etc.).

To go from backing one format and cursing Blu-ray would just show weakness and indecisiveness on the part of MS.

I am with those who believe that HD-DVD will most likely win the battle of the two technologies because of Walmart stating they will only carry HD-DVD and are producing a few cheaper models of HD-DVD players in time for the holiday season.

Walmart is the biggest player in the DVD market so if this doesn't wipe Blu-ray out for the most part then kudos to Sony and their various backers for surviving.

If an HD-DVD disc can now hold roughly as much as a Blu-ray disc and the player and discs can be produced for a much lower cost then which one do you think is going to be more popular with the average consumer?

I would say HD-DVD because when the n00bs hear DVD they'll think it's better.

I honestly don't think the "average consumer" will play a roll in this war for quite a while. I would move to say that most "average consumers" don't even own and HDTV. What's the point of having an HD/BD player to display on a 480i TV set?

He1L, i'd bet most people here don't own one.

blu ray is not a better technology though. Its not like VHS versus Beta max because beta was actually a better technology. Sony's dogmatic behavior lost them that war.

DVD does have the name behind it though, you are correct.
