As long as it isn't being touched, it really doesn't make a difference. But as Elimin8or mentioned touched on, if the XBox is moved while running, it can scratch up the disk. When it is vertical, it is quite easy to knock over if you bump it, which will put some nice scratches on your disk. I've actually done it a couple of times now, but the game were fine after I took them to get them polished.

5 of the 7 times my Xbox 360 broke it was standing vertical. So IMO don't stand it up just lay it down.
7 times!?!? Either you use it way too much, use it in the wrong way, store it in the wrong way or are just unlucky, wtf are you doing to your cconsoles, mine have never had so much as an rrod.

7 consoles really isn't that abnormal with the earliest XBox 360s. I've known people that have gotten 4 or 5 RRoD, and I've definitely read online from people that have gotten more.
Yea the first 360 that was released was awful, but they have gotten better over time. The newer ones are awesome and will almost have no problems. Once my warranty is up I plane to mod mine.
I had a friend that modded his, put clear panel on, made it all red with red lights, put a new drive in it, put a full clear case in, it looked sweet. He managed to break it changing a heatsink though, ended up busting the CD drive and it wouldn't work after that, worst time for it to go pop![]()
From what I've always heard, your 360 takes in the majority of its air from the bottom of the console (if it is vertical) or the right side (horizontal). When it is in the vertical position, this is the base, which means it is cut off from in-taking air, which seems to be a big problem. Also, my 360's (all 4 of them) have been much more prone to scratching discs and having disc read errors when they're in the vertical position. Your best option is to keep the system horizontal, IMO.
dont 360's have like a 54% failure rate?
