xbox 360 verical vs horizontal

i was wondering if anything would happen if i left my xbox 360 vertical instead of horizontal becasue someone once told me it could mess up the disc drive

No, it'll be fine. For a while, my friend had his vertical, and it was fine. If something goes wrong, all that can happen is you scratch up the disk that is in it.

As long as it isn't being touched, it really doesn't make a difference. But as Elimin8or mentioned touched on, if the XBox is moved while running, it can scratch up the disk. When it is vertical, it is quite easy to knock over if you bump it, which will put some nice scratches on your disk. I've actually done it a couple of times now, but the game were fine after I took them to get them polished.

I did it the day I got it by accident, I knew not to do it but why I did it, idk, put it from verticle to horizontal, ironically because I thought it may wobble and scratch the disc or fall and scratch the disc :P. That cost me £10 for a replacement forza 2 disc :P

actaully I meant just simpliy with it off, you move it, then possibly when you turn it on...though i doubt it. I have done it with computers before.

Hey thanks guys but I would have it in a place where it wouldn't be able to fall because that has happened to me previously and it runes my disc

5 of the 7 times my Xbox 360 broke it was standing vertical. So IMO don't stand it up just lay it down.

7 times!?!? Either you use it way too much, use it in the wrong way, store it in the wrong way or are just unlucky, wtf are you doing to your cconsoles, mine have never had so much as an rrod.

7 consoles??!!?!?

lol, Well like I have said before I used to be a pretty big gaming addict. The first 360 I had got RROD 2 weeks after I had got it. The 2nd-4th had disk drives stop working. The 5th and 7th had fans to break which made them over heat. The 6th had the video go out on it. The one I have now with the new jasper chip works great. I have had it for about a year and have never had a problem with it. Of course I don't play much anymore, I used to play 14 hours a day, and just leave my 360 on get up and start playing again the next day. That was when I wasn't going to school and had nothing to do.

7 consoles really isn't that abnormal with the earliest XBox 360s. I've known people that have gotten 4 or 5 RRoD, and I've definitely read online from people that have gotten more.

Yea the first 360 that was released was awful, but they have gotten better over time. The newer ones are awesome and will almost have no problems. Once my warranty is up I plane to mod mine.

I had a friend that modded his, put clear panel on, made it all red with red lights, put a new drive in it, put a full clear case in, it looked sweet. He managed to break it changing a heatsink though, ended up busting the CD drive and it wouldn't work after that, worst time for it to go pop :P

That must have sucked to put all that money into modding it then break it. I have already modded a couple for friends it pretty simple and cheap. I just replaced the heatsinks, fans, and cd drive on my dads 360 for a little over $50

2 RRoD Lol sent it in <1 week later same problem! lol for some reason we never sent it back in, it's just been sitting there

From what I've always heard, your 360 takes in the majority of its air from the bottom of the console (if it is vertical) or the right side (horizontal). When it is in the vertical position, this is the base, which means it is cut off from in-taking air, which seems to be a big problem. Also, my 360's (all 4 of them) have been much more prone to scratching discs and having disc read errors when they're in the vertical position. Your best option is to keep the system horizontal, IMO.

if you care to explain how it takes air from the bottom, being the fact that the bottom and top are enclosed by a metal casing. so ill be waiting for the response

I think both have it more from the back, hence the external fans being on the back and the metal casing around most of the hardware inside, not much could get through the holes on the top and bottom unfortunately

dont 360's have like a 54% failure rate?

I haven't ever found a statistic, but personally, I have a 0% failure rate, so I am happy here :D

=EDIT=

just saw your edit :P

it doesn't say how many people took part in it, but i highly doubt it was the full amount, i think it does have a higher failure rate than the other 2 consoles, but i also think it is more around the 35-40% mark for failure, just over a third of consoles failing I think is about right, maybe even a little generous

Does Vertical Have Anything To Do With The "Red Rings" Of Death? You Know When Instead Of The Lights Being Green They Are Red???
