Xbox controller on pc

Am I able to use a play and charge kit to connect an Xbox controller? I googled it and one person says yes and another person says no, just wondering if anyone on here has tried it.

No it won't work anymore. There were some older controllers that would work but M$ released an updated firmware on the new controllers that killed that functionality. AFAIK it's the same for the wireless receivers for PC. I have the wired 360 controller for Windows and it works perfectly. I just wouldn't mess with the wireless options.

Unfortunately it did not work for me either. Was hoping to save money and just plug in my wireless controller. It installed drivers, but did not function once completed.

The "Play and Charge Kit" is just a charging cable for the wireless controller and a rechargable battery.

Basically if you have a wireless controller you have to use a wireless receiver for the PC, you can't use the cable. If you have a wired controller you're golden.

Is the play and charge kit different from a standard 360 controller?

Because I have the wireless 360 for Windows that has the receiver. Then I also bought a standard 360 wireless controller from my cousin that was from 2007 and it worked with the wireless receiver on my PC.

So I'm pretty sure all you need is this.

Umm.... Unless Windows has changed something, I am pretty sure you are right. I bought a wireless receiver (has to be xbox controller compatible) a while back and just used my regular wireless xbox 360 controller. I have no idea where it is now, haven't used the thing for years.

But here are some support for this:

I purchased that exact Amazon product like a week ago. It's arriving tomorrow, so I'll let you guys know if it in fact works, and if it doesn't I'll let you know just the same (but it had better work).

Yeah if you could let us know that would be awesome. Which receiver did you get?

Hey guys. I got my receiver today. I've not tested it in the utmost depth, but I have installed Joy2Key and configured it to be used for typical Windows use, and also for Minecraft use (although with no controller support you'd be better off with a mouse and keyboard), and I've played 30 minutes of Borderlands through Steam with it. I have Windows 8 64-bit and it installed working device drivers when I plugged it in, I had no use for the disk they sent with the receiver. But, to answer the OP's question, YES, the wireless receivers work, just have to keep away from knock-offs. Hope that answers everyones question
