xeon vs amd

do you actually need dual core? You know processor speed isn't additive....Most games would only use the main processor, so you'd be wasting a lot of money to have teh Xeon name. Video Editing would be improved, as long as your software is sophistcated enough to handle dual cores.

If you have your heart set on dual core, go for an Opteron over a xeon. They are much more robust and work amazing as a stand alone chip.

the Opteron or the xenon?

Unless you are doing some serious editing and rendering, just about any chip near 3 GHz with a few gig's of ram and a SATA or SCSII HD will be just fine.

In fact I doubt you'd ever stress the chip enough to notice a difference between them.

but it sounds like you are intent on the xenon and looking for someone to agree with you. So go for it. It's your money

Or a nice 2x265 setup :)

ye but then i could also youse the xeon as a server later
Well then havnt you answered your own question?

the opteron is a server chip. Competition to the new Itanium
The Opteron is more suited to scale against the XeonMPs ... Itanium is a whole different animal
