So here is what i've developed for a fair price.

  • NZXT ALPHA Black w/Window side panel, Screwless design, (Without PSU)
  • XFX nForce 680i LT SLI Socket 775
  • XFX GeForce 9800GT 600M 512MB GDDR3, PCI-Express 2.0, 2xDVI-I, HybridPower
  • OCZ Platinum DDR2 PC6400 2048MB KIT, w/two 1024MB PC6400 XTC,CL4-4-4-16, Rev2
  • Chieftec Nätaggregat ATX 400W, 120mm Fan, Aktiv PFC, 2xSATA, PCI-E, 20/24pin
  • Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 3.0GHz 1333Mhz Socket LGA775, 4MB, BOXED m/fläkt
  • Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 500GB IDE ATA/100 16MB 7200RPM

I will use a old desktop with 2002 Windows XP Home edition as master and then this 500gb harddrive as slave. So will this system work with Windows XP Home edition? Will it work at all? Is 400w enough power to make it run? Does this combination provide fair performance, enough for... say HL2 engine smooth running? And will this motherboard and setup fit in any miditower chassi?

Must the video card be DDR2? Or will this GDDR3 work?

And by the way, i have the CD-drives already so there is no need to buy any.

XP will run on that machine, but you won't be able to take advantage of DirectX10 graphics, although you may not have to worry about that since your going to be playing Source engine games. I'd recommend at least getting a 500W if not more for a power supply. If you could, link me to the website you're ordering everything from and give me a rough estimate of how much you want to spend.
 
In that case shall i use a Fortron Source Blue Storm II 500W,Active PFC, 4xSATA, ATX, 2xPCI-E, 20/24pin ?
 
if your going to upgrade your motherboard you will need to format your windows disk as windows had configured itself to that mobo, if your doing a new build get vista, its loads better them xp, just DONT get home basic. why are you going for an IDE HDD, your may as well go for SATAII and partition off a bit for windows to be installed on. SATAII is sooooooo much fast them IDE. apart from tht it look a good build.
