Xlr adapter doesn't work

Hello guys, yesterday, I bought myself 6the Rode NT1 Microphone and it needs an xlr cable to put in the mic. My problem is that when I put the adapter from xlr to jack in the computer, I can't hear my voice. I hear the noise of the cable, So I know it's plugged in well, but I can't hear myself. What can I do?

I am providing 48V phantom power. Now my problem is still not resolved because I can hear my voice without shouting or a little when I'm at +30db and there is a lot of background sound even at 0db when I can't hear my voice. Is there a solution to this problem?
