I have XP Pro,and i'm having a REALLY GAY problem. For some reason, my account type saids "Unknown Account Type" and I can't really do stuff. I can't play WC3, which I was able to before I had to uninstall it, now I can't run it. I can't edit anything in Regedit, I can't open MSconfig, I can't install MSN updates.

Now here is the stupid part, I don't know how to log in AS admin. Welcome Screen just shows my Profile, when I go under User Accounts from Control Panel, it shows just mine. I go under My Computer - Manage - User Groups etc... I can't enable anything. Even guests. I can't freaken do anything, and it's driving me insane. I don't want to format and install it again. I have alot of files...

Any ideas? Thanks in advance

PS-What about System Restore point?

boot in safe mode and your account will be admin. And Maby a virus made it that way? if you didn't change settings.

to pc-tech...
I don't know my admin pass, I never set one.

to BluePlum...
When I load up in Safe Mode, NO accounts are shown. Its blank, just the blue screen.

This is gay, i'm going to buy a Virus program asap.

You cant install any program without admin abilities. Just wait to someone smart says something im not great with this topic...

We can try this, it smells like a virus problem.
  • Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
  • Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
  • Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Additional Tasks dialogue.
  • Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
  • Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
  • At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
  • Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Please tell me can you do all that, you should be able to.

Alright, here you go...

Oh...
I have found only one malware on your computer.
Unfortunately, that one is Worm.Bacdoor trojan, and is very nasty.
It can gather all your 'case sensitive' data and send it back to the virus owner.
It can be removed, I hope, but it is always suggested to reformat your hard drive.
It is up to, please choose what do you want, and remember; we here are not responsible for what happens.

That is trully correct.
But with going to some sites that are unsafe aswell.
Also, how to fix without reformatting, there are some tricky tools like Avenger and RegFix.

Please dont format your windows... You can recover your windows with cd installer and choose repair install. This may resolve your windows.

No, because reinstalling will only replace the lost data, not cure the virus nor delete the data you have saved on your computer. That's why reformatting is recommended.
However, what you will do no longer lays in our hands.

Could it be possible that in the backup he accidentally backs up the trojan horse?

Just be careful what you back up if that is true.
