The first disk goes ok when the 2nd disk i get " file \ntkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded. The error code is 7. Setup cannot continue. Press any key to exit." I have formatted the disks 3 times redownloaded the program 3 times and same thing every time not sure what to do. any help would be much appericiated

Sounds like you need a Welcome to the Computer Forum! http://www.computerforum.com/70672-official-welcome-thread.html and just a reminder for new members to review the http://www.computerforum.com/52038-forum-rules.html

Are you attempting the floppy 3 1/2" disk method for XP setup? It sounds like the brand of floppy is the problem there if no problems are seen with the drive like any dust buildup. If you are using old used floppies for this expect problems there. It sounds like one floppy needs replacement. For most buying an OEM release of XP on cd would be far better preferred.

the version of xp i have is an oem version. i have changed the boot order to cd and it won't boot off the cd ....that is why i tried to use the disk version of reloading. The disks I have are all different makes and I have tried to change the order of the disks so that disk 2 is on 4 different disks and same issue on every disk. all i can figure is the hard drive has crapd out. since before i tried this all it wuld boot to is the safe mode screen but you couldn't go past that or boot to previous good version.

When going over older floppies where various downloads had been saved for 95 even while not having any real wear on them I simply tossed the old ones when needing fresh disks for sata drivers. Besides the hard drive you may have to consider the floppy drive if no faults are found with the HD there. Download the drive diagnostic tool from the drive manufacturer and run a few scans to see if it picks up on any bad sectors.
